STOKE CITY work in partnership with the FA to try and engage more female footballers in the game.
Delivered in partnership with The Football Association, Stoke City's Premier League Girls Football programme aims:-
- To increase the number of women and girls aged 11 and over playing football on a regular basis in a Community setting.
- To increase the opportunities for women and girls to develop skills and confidence and progress within the pathway as a player, coach or official.
Stoke City are one of 90 professional clubs who provide a wide variety of female only football sessions. Nationally, nearly 9,000 girls have been engaged in the PL Girls Football programme since August 2015 which has been achieved by clubs providing a fun and informal environment and allowing girls to progress at their own pace and make friends at the same time. Music is played during the sessions to help create this environment and make the sessions more interactive.
For females who want to progress in the game Stoke City have created pathways with local community clubs to provide long term participation opportunities. The Club also delivers half term Soccer Schools and girls only Advanced Training Centre sessions for girls aged 6-15. Here skills are developed and girls are able to progress to the next stage of the pathway, which is the Regional Talent Club (formerly the Girls Centre of Excellence).
As part of the PL Girls programme Stoke City play in various competitions, one example is the U13s Premier League School Tournament which gives participants the opportunity to represent their school team, meet new people and for the winners to compete at famous stadiums within the UK.
The project also recruits female volunteers who we look to develop into our coaching workforce of the future.
