Academy in Action

STOKE CITY will go in search of a second successive win when they face Blackburn this evening in a Barclays Under-21 League encounter at Leigh Sports Village (k.o. 7pm).

Glyn Hodges' men will make the trip to Lancashire in a confident frame of mind after recording a 5-1 thrashing of West Brom in their last outing earlier this month.

George Waring stole the limelight that day by scoring four of the Potters' goals as they secured their first league win of the season at Under-21 level in spectacular style.

Meanwhile, the Under-18s claimed an excellent point from a goalless draw with Arsenal in the capital over the weekend.

Academy Director Dave Wright was delighted with the manner in which the youngsters went about their task against a predictably strong Gunners line-up.

He told us: "We limited them to very few opportunities. They struggled to break us down and get in behind us.

"We broke very well and caused them problems at times and with a bit more quality and better decisions in attack we could have come away with a victory."
