Agudelo Helps Utrecht Earn Survival

JUAN AGUDELO helped FC Utrecht clinch Eredivisie survival at the weekend when he scored in a 2-1 win home over Heracles.

The American striker came on as a substitute for injured captain Cedric van der Gun in the 36th minute and four minutes later notched their second of the afternoon with a superbly taken header.

It was Agudelo's second goal for the Dutch club since arriving on loan in January and he'll be hoping to add more to his tally in their final two games of the season.

Compatriot Maurice Edu notched a last-minute equaliser for Philadelphia Union in their 2-2 draw with Real Salt Lake.

Edu headed home Cristian Maidana's corner in the 90th minute to snatch a point for the Union and also his second goal in as many weeks.

It was also Philadelphia's third draw in succession and they now face New York Red Bulls away from home on Wednesday evening.

Cameron Jerome played 75 minutes of Crystal Palace's 1-0 victory over Aston Villa.

Jerome headed a Ciaran Clark header off the line whilst hitting the crossbar himself with an effort from close range, before Jason Puncheon's winner just after the striker's withdrawal.

The result lifted the Eagles up to 37 points after three wins on the bounce in the Barclays Premier League.

Jack Butland helped Leeds United to their first victory in six games as they triumphed 2-0 against Championship strugglers Blackpool.

A brace from former Crewe Alexandra midfielder Luke Murphy earned all three points at Elland Road, whilst Butland was on hand at the other end to thwart Gary MacKenzie's hopes of a late consolation.

It was the England international's first clean sheet for the Whites since his debut in a goalless draw at Middlesbrough back at the end of February.

Michael Kightly struck the bar for Burnley as their promotion to the Premier League was put on hold following a 1-0 home defeat by Middlesbrough.

Jacob Butterfield scored the only goal of the game for the ten-man visitors, with the Clarets losing back-to-back games at Turf Moor having previously going 21 matches without defeat there.

Kightly had earlier seen his header be denied by the woodwork before his weaving run had set up Danny Ings, only for his effort to be blocked by Albert Adomah.

At the top of League One, Jamie Ness came on for the final 20 minutes as Leyton Orient thrashed Gillingham 5-1 at the Matchroom Stadium.

With second placed Brentford losing at Swindon, faint automatic promotion hopes remain alive with four games to go, but Orient's first win in six matches did at least mathematically secure them a place in the play offs.

Jordan Keane played in a 2-0 defeat at Southport that saw Tamworth relegated from the Skrill Premier League.

The drop down had been in on the cards for a while with Jason Walker's brace finally rubberstamping the end of the Lambs' five-year stay in the division.
