Club confirm that Tottenham game will be a showpiece event

STOKE CITY have confirmed that their final home match of the current season will be one of the showpiece celebrations of their 150th anniversary.

The Club have chosen the Barclays Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur for a major celebration of this prestigious landmark in their history.

Champions League hopefuls Tottenham will provide the glamorous opposition for the game on Sunday 12th May when many events are being planned.

An announcement will be made shortly about the ways in which City will mark this occasion at the final home match of their fifth season in the Premier League.

“After giving the matter careful consideration, we decided that the Tottenham match was the best option to us before looking at the astronomical price of playing a club of the stature of Barcelona or Real Madrid,” explained City’s Chief Executive Tony Scholes.

“This decision was based on the fact that we play in the best League in the world and therefore we already have 19 big matches at the Britannia Stadium.

“We have some exciting plans for this celebration day, including a parade of former players, and we will be making further announcements about those attractions.”

The Club’s 150th anniversary is now getting into full swing with the launch of an exhibition which tells the story of the Club and its strong connection with Stoke-on-Trent.

The football exhibition trail is now running at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery and will be available for viewing right through until the beginning of November.

“This is a fascinating trail around the museum embracing the Club’s connection with social and natural history, fine art and football fashion, while there is also an interactive 150 memory pod and community-based activities,” outlined Scholes.
