Midfielder insists Potters will continue to chase down sides above them...
JOE ALLEN is confident Stoke City can frighten and catch those sides directly above them in the Premier League table following Saturday’s win over Crystal Palace.
The Potters were unbeaten in the league this calendar year before the setback at West Brom just under a fortnight ago, but bounced back to winning ways at the weekend against the Londoners.
Victory over the Eagles saw Mark Hughes’ side climb back into 9th, ahead of West Ham on goal difference and five points behind the Baggies who occupy eighth position.
Allen believes the partnership of him and fellow midfielders Charlie Adam and Glenn Whelan is one of the key reasons City have enjoyed a positive run.
“I think we have a bit of everything in our midfield three which is great,” the Welsh international said to stokecityfc.com.
“There have been changes throughout the season and everybody knows they can’t rest on their laurels but in recent weeks it’s worked really well.
“I think that’s one of the reasons behind our good form in 2017 and to break 30 points is a big marker in the Premier League, particularly if you consider the start that we had.
“We’ve come a long way since those first few games and the three points at the weekend means we can look upwards again at who we can possibly chase and track down.”
Allen’s strike on Saturday was his sixth of the campaign, two more than his previous seasonal career best at Swansea City.
The Welshman’s strike also secured the Potters an eighth league win and he is hopeful he can surge another goal scoring run after previously netting four in three successive games back in October.
“It’s really nice, it’s been a while since my last so I’m hoping this goal will kick me on and start a similar run that I had to the one earlier in the year,” he added.
“I’m really grateful for both Marko who played the ball in behind for Ramadan who did brilliantly to bring it down, hold off a couple of defenders and put it on a plate for me to be perfectly honest.
“I’ve not really had or thought of any targets about scoring goals because it’s new territory for me.
“Four was my best for a full Premier League season so I’m chuffed to be on six at this stage of the campaign and I guess the ambition is to try everything I can to get into double figures.”
