Boss offers update on 'keeper after fresh setback

MARK HUGHES is awaiting results of Jack Butland's MRI scans after the England goalkeeper suffered another injury setback.

Butland was last night expected to hit the comeback trail after eight months on the sidelines when he was named in the U23s line-up to face Reading in the Premier League Cup.

However, he was withdrawn from the side after feeling discomfort in the ankle during the warm-up and was replaced by Harry Isted.

Asked about Butland following today's 2-0 home win over Burnley, Hughes revealed: "It's a little bit of a concern I have to say.

"He got to the warm-up and just felt discomfort in the ankle. It's the same situation that we found ourselves in before the beginning of the season unfortunately, not to the same extent but in the same area.

"We need to get to the bottom of it. He's gone for MRI scans today but I haven't yet had an update because clearly I've been involved in the game.

"Hopefully we can settle it down again and continue to try and get him ready for games again but if that's not the case we may have to do something more radical. We're trying to avoid that if we can though."
