Manager waiting on fitness of Austrian international...
MARK HUGHES is sweating on the fitness of Marko Arnautovic ahead of this weekend’s 2016/17 curtain-closer against Southampton on the South Coast.
The Potters travel to Hampshire eager to sign off the campaign in triumphant fashion, although they may well have to do that without the influential Austrian.
The 27-year-old is currently nursing an elbow injury following a heavy challenge from Arsenal’s Rob Holding during last weekend’s fixture at the bet365 Stadium.
Speaking on Friday morning, Hughes said: “Marko is obviously our biggest concern for the game at the moment.
“There is still another couple of session to go before the game, so hopefully we get through them with a clean bill of health.
“Marko is in quite a bit of pain still, so we are going to have to give him as much time as possible and see how he is closer to the time.
“It may well be on that goes down to the wire, but him aside, at the moment, we have a largely fully fit group to choose from.”
Hughes could be tempted to switch things around at St Mary’s with top goalscorer Peter Crouch and January acquisition Saido Berahino both pressing for starts after coming off the bench last weekend.
