ONE MEMBER of the Stoke City squad knows all about the Uhrencup - and what it takes to win the competition.
Xherdan Shaqiri was a member of the FC Basel side that won the international pre-season competition in Switzerland in 2011.
The Potters announced earlier today that they will be taking part in the competition in July with games against Neuchâtel Xamax and Young Boys Bern at the 5,200-seater capacity Tissot Arena in Biel/Bienne.
Swiss international Shaqiri helped Basel lift the trophy for the 12th time six years ago as they recorded back to back wins over Hertha Belin (3-0) and West Ham (2-1).
He will be hoping for a repeat when the Potters become the latest English side to take part in a competition that dates back more than 50 years.
City will face Neuchâtel in their first pre-season outing on July 10 with the game kicking off at 8pm local time. Two days later they will line-up against Young Boys with the game again kicking-off at 8pm local time.
