Skipper stunned by defeat at Fulham

RYAN SHAWCROSS admits that the players need to lick their wounds and bounce back from Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Fulham when they host West Bromwich Albion in two weeks time.

The Potters were left to rue a series of unfortunate events as things conspired against them at Craven Cottage, leaving the hosts to celebrate a victory that never appeared likely.

Chances came and went for the visitors as they dominated the game from start to finish, however, Darren Bent’s late strike ultimately inflicted a fourth defeat of the campaign upon Mark Hughes’ side.

“It was one of those days where things just didn't go our way, and to be honest it is hard to take because we couldn't have been any more dominant,” the skipper told Stoke City Player.

“I thought we controlled the game, and never ever looked in any danger of taking nothing away with us.

“We need to be more ruthless though – there is no doubt about that. We had chances but again weren't able to put any of them away and that has cost us dearly in the end.

“The game should have been won before their goal in truth, but we can’t get ourselves too down because there are positives to take away with us.”

He added: “We need to get some points on the board starting against West Brom in two weeks time. It’s difficult to take this defeat today, but we will move on from it and we will look to get the right result in two weeks time.”
