PETER CROUCH hailed a job well done after Stoke City secured their place in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.
The England international marked his return to the Potters’ starting line-up for last night’s game at Tranmere by opening his goal account for the season.
Crouch’s 90th minute strike set the seal on a 2-0 win for Mark Hughes side and set them up nicely for Sunday’s home Premier League date with Norwich City.
He told stokecityfc.com: “It was important that we went to Tranmere and did things right and from the first whistle we showed the quality that we have; we got the ball down and passed it and thoroughly deserved the win.
“Credit to Tranmere because they gave it a good go but we passed it well and I think that showed in the end.
“It’s a shame we didn’t score more goals or even get the second one a lot earlier than we did because that would have really killed the game off but I thought we were always in control.”
Crouch got off the mark with a cool finish from a long diagonal ball from Oussama Assaidi and he added: “It’s always nice to score and it doesn’t matter when they come – I was thankful to nick one right at the end.
“I’m pleased to have got my first of the season. My dad made a long journey up from London to Tranmere, so I owed him a little celebration.
“I’ve not played the last few Premier League games but always felt I would get a chance against Tranmere and was looking forward to it to be honest. It was good to get 90 minutes and be part of a winning team again.”
