A Night Of Laughter

Three of the region's leading comedians are heading to the Britannia Stadium

THE Tony Waddington Suite will be rocking to the sound of laughter later this month when Stoke City stage their first-ever Comedy Night, featuring three of the region’s leading funny men.

Host Lea Roberts, the winner of the ITV show ‘Stand Up Britain’ in 2002, will be joined by Jamie Sutherland and Martin Gold for a fun-packed night.

The event will take place on Saturday 16 November and will help fill the void left by a break in Premier League action for the Potters due to international fixtures.

Stoke’s Head of Commercial Andrew Billingham said: “Lea, Jamie and Martin are all seasoned campaigners on the comedy circuit and all have big reputations.

“The Britannia Stadium has been the venue for comedy nights in the past but it’s the first time the Club itself has organised an event of this nature and it promises to be an evening of great entertainment.”

Lea comes from a sporting background, having been a professional rugby league player with Halifax before moving into the world of comedy.

He’s widely regarded as one few comedians able to work in both ‘mainstream’ and ‘alternative’ environments and offers a traditional stand-up act which appeals to audiences young and old, with an adult, yet inoffensive and clean speech.

Jamie is the man for an audience who like a comic who is both modern, yet gag filled, while Martin started out in comedy more than 20 years ago as a comedy impressionist. He quickly progressed into stand-up comedy and has supported the likes of Ken Dodd, Les Dawson, Gene Pitney, Mickey Rooney and Al Martino.
