Chairman's Annual Charity Ball raises over £28,000

THE CHAIRMAN’S Annual Charity Ball broke through the magical six-figure mark on Friday evening after £28,305 was raised . . . taking its overall tally from the past five years to a whopping £124,000.

The proceeds of the event, which had a ‘Black Tie with a hint of Red’ theme, will go directly into the Stoke City Community Fund, which has been set up to help offer support to a range of local community-based projects.

In previous years, the money generated by the Chairman’s Ball has gone to the Club’s nominated charities, but with the current campaign being the Club’s 150th the focus of attention is very much on aiding projects
within North Staffordshire.

Around 200 people packed in to the Tony Waddington Suite at the Britannia Stadium to enjoy the grand occasion, which kicked off with a champagne reception before the Chairman himself took to the stage to make
a welcome speech.

Host John Acres then laid down the itinerary for the evening, before a luscious three-course dinner was served, consisting of oak smoked salmon and trout terrine, duo of lamb with bubble and squeek and a desert of
spiced toffee apple lattice.

Anyone not displaying 'a Hint of Red' was penalised during the night by John Acres, while an auction featuring a host of sporting memorabilia helped boost the evening's final tally.

Lots which raised significant amounts included a Media Day against Manchester United, a signed Ryan Shawcross away shirt and captains armband, a signed Lionel Messie print and a rare pair of signed match-worn
pair of boots from current City leading goal-scorer Peter Crouch.

Entertainment at the outset of the evening was provided by a jazz band, before Crooner Wayne Allen performed during and after dinner.

Speaking during the event, Mr Coates, who again displayed his generosity by vowing to match the total amount of money raised throughout the evening said: "This is a wonderful occasion made all the more
enjoyable given the fact that all of the money that has been raised is going to locally based projects.

"I always enjoy this evening to be honest, the Club host a fantastic event. We have enjoyed some fantastic food, the entertainment has been superb and to top it all off we have raised another superb amount of money."
