Referee appointed for Potters' game with Aston Villa
ANTHONY TAYLOR will take charge of Stoke City's Barclays Premier League curtain-raiser against Aston Villa on Saturday.
The Wythenshawe official has been handed his first game of the 2014/15 season on the opening day and will be joined at the Britannia Stadium by assistants J Collin and S Ledgar, with M Haywood the fourth official.
Taylor refereed 31 games last term across the Premier League, Championship, League One, FA Cup and Capital One Cup, brandishing 102 yellow cards and three reds.
He made two visits to Stoke-on-Trent during 2013/14 as the Potters lost 1-0 to Norwich City in September and then 5-3 to Liverpool in January.
His opening game also saw him oversee Paul Lambert's side and send off Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny in the Villains' 3-1 win at the Emirates Stadium.
Taylor then ruled over two of Villa's home games as well; their 2-0 defeat to Everton in October and the 4-1 triumph over Norwich City in March.
