ASMIR BEGOVIC got his hands on four of the awards as the big winner at Stoke City’s End of Season Awards Dinner at the King’s Hall on Tuesday evening.
The giant Bosnian international crowned another excellent season by scooping the major honours at the prestigious occasion in which the Club looked back on a 2012-13 campaign in which they secured their Premier League status once again.
Begovic was the unanimous choice of the fans, firstly in picking up the Supporter Clubs' Player of the Year and he rounded off the evening’s festivities by picking up the award that was voted for by the Club’s Supporters on the Official Website.
In between those two accolades, he was also rewarded for his consistently excellent performances throughout the season with the Players’ Player of the Year while also sharing the Coaching Staff’s Player of the Year with Ryan Shawcross.
Following a sumptuous four-course meal, the presentation of the Awards began with Andy Willkinson being acclaimed for his work in the community.
It was then Begovic’s turn to step up onto the stage for the first of his prizes when Brian Shaw, Chairman of the Supporters Club, presented their award.
The top goalscorer award was won outright by Jonathan Walters, after the Republic of Ireland international shared it with Kenwyne Jones two years ago.
As with the 2012 event, there was only ever going to be one winner of the Goal of the Season with Cameron Jerome’s 25-yard thunderbolt in the draw with Southampton making him a worthy successor to Peter Crouch’s stunning volley.
Steven Nzonzi claimed the Young Player of the Year Award, before the spotlight fell on Begovic for the climax to the evening’s proceedings.
He will have gained great satisfaction from earning the vote of his team-mates, and then after stepping up with Shawcross for the Coaching Staff’s Player of the Year Award came the crowning glory to a wonderful evening with the Player of the Year.
"It's been a very special evening and I feel truly honoured," he commented afterwards.
"I never expected all of this, I came here to play my part in the evening.
"This gives me the motivation to go away and try even harder next season."
One of the biggest cheers of the night was raised by Hairy Potter in his acceptance speech.
He said that the biggest "fan" was Chairman Peter Coates and urged guests to give him a big ovation for his commitment to the Club since returning in 2006.
