Places snapped up to celebrate City legend's 75th birthday

STOKE CITY will be celebrating two big birthdays in 2013 . . . one of which will honour their World Cup winning goalkeeper Gordon Banks.

As well as the Club’s own 150th anniversary, a dinner will be held in February to mark the 75th birthday of the England and Stoke legend.

Such is the huge popularity of the man who helped England win the World Cup in 1966 that places at this prestigious event SOLD OUT within days of City finalising their plans to hold the celebration dinner at the Britannia Stadium.

One of the big attractions is that other members of England’s World Cup winning squad will be in attendance on what promises to be a trip down memory lane with footage from a wonderful career and interviews with the legend himself.

Banks, who is now the Club’s President, is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time after performing with such distinction for England as well as in the domestic game, initially with Leicester City and then at the Victoria Ground.

“It’s a measure of the high esteem in which Gordon is held throughout the game that we received a high level of interest from the moment that we started to formulate our plans for the dinner,” said City’s Head of Commercial Andrew Billingham.

“We already know this will be another occasion when we have a ‘full house’ at the Britannia Stadium and it will be wonderful to see some famous faces here, all of whom want to join Gordon to celebrate this occasion and his fantastic career.”

Banks actually celebrates his 75th birthday on December 30th, but this special dinner will take place in the Tony Waddington Suite on Thursday 28th February.
