Begovic remains confident City can turn season round

ASMIR BEGOVIC insists that Stoke City have the characters within the dressing room to turn around their season as they face an uneasy run-in . . . starting with the visit of champions-elect Manchester United next weekend.

Begovic was left helpless as Matthew Lowton’s Goal of the Season contender cut short City’s determined fightback in the closing stages and meant that Aston Villa eventually ran out 3-1 winners at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

Like his team-mates, the giant Bosnian was left deflated by the fact that they had failed to take something out of the match after Michael Kightly had fired home an 80th minute equaliser when they appeared to be on top in the game.

However, Begovic remained upbeat about the Potters’ prospects of taking enough points from the remaining games to ease any concerns.

“We know we’re in a battle now and it’s going to be tough, but we’ve got the characters in the dressing room to turn things round,” he said.

“We’ve got guys who will stand up and fight, no matter what happens, so hopefully that will work in our favour because it’s a tough League.

“It’s human nature that people will be worried by our situation and fear the worst, but we still have our destiny very much in our own hands.

“We’ve still got another three home matches and hopefully, with the supporters right behind us, the spirit of the Club will take us through.”
