Goalkeeper believes a Potters away win is coming...

BOSNIAN goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is aiming to end Stoke’s away day hoodoo by gaining victory at West Midland neighbours Aston Villa on Sunday [kick-off 4pm].

City have won just one Premier League game on the road this season and Begovic is confident the Club’s performances are showing signs that they are edging nearer to adding to their victory over West Ham back in August.

However, the 26-year-old admits the derby clash against Villa will be a stern test and they will need to be at their very best if they are to come away with all three points.

“We know our away form needs to be better, but our heads won’t drop and we fully believe that elusive away win is just around the corner” he said exclusively to Stoke City Player.

“If we keep playing the way that we have in the last few weeks, then our results will change away from home.

“We haven’t quite got the luck that we have deserved in our last few away games, but we are going to continue to work hard and hopefully give our fans something to cheer at Villa Park.”

The Potters will be aiming to keep up their good form by achieving their second double of the season after defeating West Ham at Britannia Stadium last weekend and beating Aston Villa back in December.

However, since gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2008, Stoke have failed to win at Villa Park in five meetings, having lost one and drew four.

Begovic says he relishes the games against local opposition and is confident the Potters have enough to overcome a Villa side who have won the last two games on home soil.

“It’s always a fantastic atmosphere in a local derby and playing Aston Villa is always fun” he said.

“We are really looking forward to the game, they are in great form and they will make the game very difficult for us, so we have to be at our very best if we want to get a result.

“That said, we’ve been in great form ourselves recently, so we can take a lot of confidence from that and go into the game with plenty of positive thinking.

“They’re a very attacking team, so we need to be on our game defensively. They have players that can trouble us, but equally we have players that can be a danger to their side.

“It’s going to be a difficult one, but these are the games you want to be involved in, so we are very much looking forward to it” he added.

The Potters currently sit eleventh in the Premier League table, level on points with Aston Villa who lie in tenth place on goal difference.

A win would see City climb above Paul Lambert’s men and Begovic revealed he is aiming for a top ten finish come the end of the season - a feat that has not been achieved since the Club have been in the Premier League.

“The club has never finished in the top ten of the Premier League and that is certainly what we are looking to do as we reach the end of the season.

“We have shown great signs of improvement this season, our performances have been great, particularly at home so breaking into the top ten is ultimately our aim and I believe we can do it.

“We need to keep up our momentum and aim to finish as high in the table as we possibly can.”
