TONY PULIS included a Polish international trialist in his Stoke City line-up for the pre-season game against Torquay United at Plainmoor.
Full-back Sebastian Boenisch was the surprise name in the Potters’ line-up as they began the next stage of their preparations in the south west by taking on the League Two outfit.
Boenisch, who played for Poland in the Euro 2012 Finals, had become a free agent during the summer after his contract expired at Werder Bremen.
The one notable absentee from City’s squad was defender Robert Huth, so Matthew Upson lined up alongside Ryan Shawcross once again.
Shawcross had shrugged off the knee problem which had forced him to be substituted at half time in the game against Sporting Kansas City.
Andy Wilkinson had recovered from a hamstring strain picked up in the United States to take his place among the substitutes.
