STOKE CITY have today dismissed reports that they will take on Bologna in a pre-season game at the Britannia Stadium.
While the Club have lined up a meeting with their Serie A rivals Genoa for Saturday 10th August, reports coming out of Italy claiming that a second game against Bologna will go ahead as part of the pre-season build-up are not the case.
City’s Chief Executive Tony Scholes explained: “Bologna were one of the clubs under consideration when we originally announced our intention to stage a pre-season game at the Britannia Stadium, but those plans went no further than that.
“In many respects, we were spoilt for choice by the quality of potential opponents for this game before deciding Genoa were the preferred option.”
City’s players reported back for pre-season training on Monday at the start of a five week programme which will see them visit a training camp in France and then embark upon a ten-day trip to the United States where they will play three MLS sides.
The game against Genoa is the final fixture of that pre-season schedule, one week before they kick off the new Barclays Premier League season at Liverpool.
