England international retains spot in starting eleven...

JACK BUTLAND was handed his first Premier League start against title-chasing Liverpool on Sunday afternoon after impressing in his two recent outings against Everton and Leicester City.

The England international got the nod to start the game, despite former Denmark captain Thomas Sorensen returning from injury.

Mark Hughes made two changes to his eleven prior to kick-off with Republic of Ireland ace Jonathan Walters and Peter Crouch both earning recalls.

Walters replaced the ineligible Oussama Assaidi on the flank whilst former Anfield favourite Crouch replaced the absent Kenwyne Jones up front.

Otherwise, the team remained the same from the one that secured a passage through to the last 32 of the FA Cup eight days earlier.

Stoke City: Begovic; Cameron, Shawcross (c), Wilson, Pieters; Walters, Nzonzi, Adam, Whelan, Arnautovic; Crouch. Subs: Sorensen, Shotton, Muniesa, Palacios, Ireland, Pennant, Etherington.
