IT WAS a night to remember for Geoff Cameron yesterday evening as the United States of America recorded a dramatic 2-1 victory over Ghana in their first group game at the World Cup Finals in Brazil.
A blistering start by the States saw Clint Dempsey put his team ahead in superb fashion after just 29 seconds, the fifth quickest goal in World Cup history, before Ghana laid siege to Tim Howard's goal.
With Cameron at the heart of the defence and with the 28-year-old dealing effectively with a change of centre-half partner at half-time, America looked on course to keep the Black Stars at bay and record a clean sheet.
However with eight minutes remaining Andre Ayew's strike seemed certain to have secured a draw for the Ghanaians until John Brooks popped up in the 86th to head home Graham Zusi's corner and claim all three points for America.
The win is a massive boost for the US as they look to progress out of Group G as they now face Europeans giants Portugal on Sunday, before taking on Germany four days later.
