US star aiming for a positive result at Southampton after Man Utd victory

GEOFF CAMERON admits that last weekend’s first ever Premier League triumph against Manchester United ranks as one of the highlights of his playing career.

The United States international has established himself as a first team regular at the Britannia Stadium since his switch from MLS side Houston Dynamo 18-months ago.

During that time he has helped the side record victories against Liverpool and Chelsea amongst others, as well as featuring prominently for his country as they secured a spot at the finals of this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

“It was a huge win for sure, and one that certainly ranks up there amongst the very best moments of my career so far,” he told

“Manchester United are one of, if not the biggest club in the world, so to play against them and beat them really is special.

“I know it was a huge moment for everybody connected to Stoke City because it has been a long time since we beat them in the league – so it is one that we will all remember for a long time.”

He added: “I've had some wonderful moments as a player at both domestic and international level, but as I say, this is definitely up there with the best of them.”

The Boston-born star says it is imperative that he and his team mates build upon that victory when they travel to Southampton tomorrow.

“It’s all well and good beating teams like Manchester United and Chelsea, but we need to go out there and win the games against the sides around us too,” the 28-year-old added.

“We haven’t been able to do that recently which has been frustrating for us, because we know we have everything in the locker to go into those games and claim all three points.

“It is fair to say that we haven’t had the rub of the green at times, but hopefully that will change now, and we can keep doing the things we did right against Manchester United.

“If we can go to Southampton on Saturday and perform to the same levels that we did last weekend, then it is a game that we can certainly win.”
