More than 80 players returning for 150 Anniverary match

WORLD CUP winners Gordon Banks and Sir Geoff Hurst head an all-star cast of former Stoke City players who will feature in the special 150th Anniversary celebrations later this month.

Banks, the Club’s President, and Hurst are among more than 80 Potters legends who will be guests of honour at the 150 Anniversary match when City face Tottenham Hotspur on May 12th.

It represents the largest-ever gathering of former players for a parade that will take place before the live televised game against Spurs in the Barclays Premier League at the Britannia Stadium.

Record appearance-maker Eric Skeels, former England winger Mark Chamberlain and many more fans’ favourites, including the likes of George Berry, Wayne Biggins and John Mahoney, have also confirmed they will be joining in the celebrations on what promises to be a memorable day.

They will be treated to a tour of the Club’s Clayton Wood Training Ground before making their way to the Britannia Stadium for the big build-up ahead of the 1.30pm kick-off.

City’s Chief Executive Tony Scholes said: “We are delighted that so many of our ex-players have accepted our invitation to attend the game against Tottenham.

“Never have so many of our former players gathered together at one time before and it shows just how highly they regard the Club that they want to be involved in the 150th anniversary celebrations.

“Their presence will add to the sense of occasion and I’m sure our supporters will enjoy taking a trip down memory lane as they are paraded before kick-off.”

One of those Potters legends, League Cup winner Terry Conroy, said: “We have our Stoke City Old Boys’ Association dinners, but we’ve never had the number of former players at those events that will be at the Tottenham game.

“It will be fantastic to see so many ex-Stoke players together on such a special day for the Club.”

Some of those players who are returning for that occasion may well feature in the 'Greatest XI' which will be unveiled on the day.

The Club are also planning other attractions at the Tottenham game and will have more details in the run-up to the match.
