Development boss keen to concentrate on positives after Britannia Stadium defeat

DEVELOPMENT boss Glyn Hodges was keen to look at the positives after his side failed to return to winning ways on Friday evening after falling to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Liverpool.

The Potters couldn’t most of home advantage in front of a healthy crowd at the Britannia Stadium and were undone by a solitary strike from attacker Cameron Brannagan on 13 minutes.

The defeat meant City missed out on the opportunity to close the gap to a single point on the Merseyside outfit, but Hodges thought his team performed well and were unlucky not to have taken anything away from the contest.

“I thought the lads put in a lot of effort and showed great endeavour on the night and certainly deserved to pick up at least a point,” he told stokecityfc.com.

“I felt their goal could have been avoided and I don’t feel Liverpool created a great deal against us, yet they have won which has left us scratching our heads as to how we haven’t taken something from the game.

“In the last two matches I don’t think Liverpool and Manchester City have created much against us and credit for that must go to the lads but at the end of the day we have lost them both.

“We’ve had good chances in those games but haven’t been able to get the ball over the line which is a bit disappointing.

“The lads are working really hard on the training pitch and taking on board everything we are saying but sometimes you are left wondering how you haven’t won the game.

“I think at the moment it is a lack of belief. The lads need to believe that they can score and beat these teams because I feel that’s all it comes down to.

“If they can do that then the lads have a great chance of winning matches and hopefully they can start to convert their chances against Fulham next Friday and maybe get the win their performances have deserved.”
