Club lining up opposition for game at the Britannia Stadium

STOKE CITY will make a pre-season appearance at the Britannia Stadium for the first time in four years, it has been confirmed.

Chief Executive Tony Scholes has revealed the Potters will face continental opposition the weekend before the start of the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League campaign.

The opposition have yet to be finalised, but it will represent Stoke’s first home pre-season outing since they drew 2-2 with Spanish outfit Real Valladolid in August 2009.

Scholes explained: “We will be announcing full details of the tour to the US next week when hopefully we will also be confirming our full pre-season schedule.

“It will include a friendly at the Britannia Stadium, which is something we haven’t had for four years.

“The game will take place either on Friday 9th August or Saturday 10th; if Port Vale are at home on the Saturday, then we’ll be looking to play on the Friday evening.

"But if they are away we will hope to play at 3.00pm on the Saturday.

“As the Football League season will have started by that point, Port Vale’s games must take precedence.”

Manager Mark Hughes and his players will spend 10 days in the United States.

They are due to fly out on July 22nd and currently have two games scheduled; against Houston Dynamo on July 24th and FC Dallas on July 27th.
