Team news ahead of Sunday's game with Swansea

STOKE CITY’S build-up to Sunday’s date with Swansea have been hampered by key players missing training through injury.

Jon Walters, Robert Huth, Glenn Whelan, Erik Pieters and Andy Wilkinson have all sat out sessions at some point this week as the Potters prepared for the trip to south Wales.

While Wilkinson, who has a knee problem, is unlikely to make the trip to South Wales, manager Mark Hughes will check on the fitness of the other four before finalising his plans for the game at the Liberty Stadium.

Walters has been nursing a thigh problem, Huth an ankle injury and Whelan a hamstring complaint, while Pieters failed to stay the distance in this morning’s training session at Clayton Wood due to a stiff back.

Hughes told “Glenn trained today which is encouraging. Jon hadn’t trained all week but was back out there with us today and we’ll check on him tomorrow.

“Erik had to leave the session today because he was complaining of a stiff back. He went to get some work done on that but hopefully the medical guys can click him back into place and he’ll be okay, although he must be regarded as a doubt at the moment.

“Robert is still feeling the effects of the blow to the ankle he took in the Manchester United game and we’ll have to see how he is too.”
