Manager gives team news ahead of United trip...

MARK HUGHES hopes to have Marko Arnautovic, Jonathan Walters and Glen Johnson back in contention for tomorrow’s trip to Manchester United.

The trio missed out Saturday’s FA Cup defeat at Crystal Palace, and speaking ahead of the Old Trafford clash, Hughes was looking to include them in his plans as City return to Barclays Premier League action

“The likes of Marko Arnautovic, Jon Walters and Glen Johnson missed out at the weekend because they weren’t fit. They had a light session today and if they don’t get a reaction to that they should be available,” said Hughes.

Whilst the manager is looking to have three faces back in his plans, he confirmed that Marc Wilson will be out of action for between 10-12 weeks with a medial ligament injury.

Wilson’s loss will be a blow to the Potters, but Hughes said the prognosis was better than first thought after initial fears of cruciate ligament damage.

He added: “Marc Wilson is unavailable. It’s not cruciate ligament injury thankfully but it’s the medial, so it’ll be 10-12 weeks, so it’s significant.

“It’ll near-on rule him out for the season now but hopefully he’ll get back. It’s one you have to manage correctly which we always do and it should be straightforward in terms of recovery. Luckily it’s not a cruciate which we feared when it happened.”

There was, however, encouraging words from the press conference, with Hughes saying Shay Given hopes to back in training soon after recovering from a knee problem he sustained while on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

“Shay isn’t fit at the moment. He’s with the physios and we want to get him out on the training pitches sooner rather than later. He’s had an issue with his knee but we’re hopeful once he starts goalkeeping work which he hasn’t been able to do lately, then he’ll be able get up to speed quickly.”
