City boss hoping to make new additions in coming weeks...

MARK HUGHES says the Club remain firmly in the hunt for a number of additional acquisitions prior to the start of the season despite already completing four high profile captures this summer.

The City boss has added to his squad by swooping for Senegalese ace Mame Biram Diouf, former Fulham skipper Steve Sidwell and Sunderland’s Phil Bardsley over the close season, whilst highly rated defender Dionatan Teixeira has also arrived from Slovakian side Dukla Banska Bystrica.

Whilst the Welshman admits to being delighted by the early business carried out at the Britannia Stadium, he remains hopeful of concluding a number of other deals prior to the start of the 2014/15 campaign in five weeks’ time.

“We are very pleased with the work we have carried out already, but we do have a number of other irons in the fire at the moment too,” he told stokecityfc.com.

“Players are starting to come back from the World Cup now so things will start to move quite quickly in my opinion.

“If the right players with the right qualities become available then of course we will be looking to act upon that, but the deal will have to be right for us as a football club – that is important for us.

“We feel that we are already in a good place because of the quality of players that we have managed to bring in already this summer, and that is incredibly pleasing.”

The squad, together with the quartet of new signings, returned to pre-season training earlier this week following their eight week summer break, and Hughes says he has been pleased by the way the recent arrivals have integrated into the group.

“A lot of the guys already know the likes of Phil Bardsley and Steve Sidwell anyway – they have come up against each other many times, so there is a relationship there straight away,” he added.

“Mame [Biram Diouf] has come in during the summer too and he knows the English game, and he has played against a few of our lads too. Because of that, integrating him and the other lads into the group is relatively easy.

“Dionatan Teixeira has also been with us for a few months too, so it easy for him to come back in and hit the ground running – just as he and the other lads have done.”
