MARK HUGHES is looking forward to giving new signing Mame Biram Diouf the chance to prove a point in the Premier League.

The Senegalese striker is one of four signings completed by the Potters ahead of the start of pre-season training at Clayton Wood next Wednesday.

Diouf has been joined in checking-in at the Potters by Steve Sidwell, Phil Bardsley and Dionatan Teixeira as Hughes looks to build upon the Club’s first ever top 10 finish in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old endured a disappointing spell at Manchester United earlier in his career but has scored 26 goals in 57 Bundesliga appearances for Hannover 96 and is hungry to make his mark in England at the second time of asking.

Speaking at the launch of a ‘Save and Support’ Affinity Account initiative with Leek United Building Society, Hughes told Stoke Player: “I think Mame will feel he has something to prove.

“He has obviously had experience of the Premier League having had a spell at Manchester United that was probably frustrating for him because he didn’t get as much game time as he would have liked.

“He went on loan to Blackburn and although he got more games he was playing in a position that wasn’t his main position.

“But he’s gone to Germany, had the desire to make an impact over there and has done really well. His goal-scoring record in a very strong league as we know is comparable to anyone in the Bundesliga.

“We’re really pleased to have been able to bring him back to the Premier League and we all feel that as a consequence of his earlier experience in the Premier League he’ll be coming back here with a point to prove and to show the progression he’s made in his career already.”
