SUMMER signings Geoff Cameron and Maurice Edu will be looking to write Stoke City history this weekend . . . after they were called up for international duty by United States manager Jurgen Klinsmann.
No former Stoke City player has ever featured for the US Men's national team, but that looks set to change with both Cameron and Edu expected to take some part for their country in their crucial upcoming 2014 World Cup Qualifying double-header against Jamaica.
The pair starred for their native country last month, as they pulled off a shock victory against Mexico at the Estadio Azteca.
That win sets them up perfectly ahead of Friday’s opening showdown at the Columbus Crew Stadium, before the two nations lock horns in the second-leg of the tie in the Caribbean on Tuesday evening.
Cameron and Edu are just two of nine Stoke players away on international duty over the next ten days, with the likes of Asmir Begovic, Charlie Adam and Republic of Ireland trio Jon Walters, Glenn Whelan and Marc Wilson also hoping to feature for their countries.
City number one Begovic should start for Bosnia as they open their World Cup Qualifying campaign in Liechtenstein on Friday night, whilst they host Latvia in their second Group G Qualifier in Zenica four days later.
Deadline day arrival Charlie Adam will become the first Stoke player to feature for Scotland since Willie Maxwell in 1898 if he is selected to play in either of their Group A clashes against Serbia, (Friday 8th September) or Macedonia (Tuesday 11th September) at Hampden Park.
Wilson Palacios could pick up his 78th and 79th caps for Honduras, in Havana and San Pedro, after being named in their 24-man squad for the vital CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying double-header against Cuba.
Meanwhile, Walters and Whelan could both start for the Republic of Ireland in their opening Group C encounter against Kazakhstan on Friday evening, but Wilson may have to wait until their friendly clash with Oman, at Fulham’s Craven Cottage next Tuesday, to pick up his second international cap.
