Jonathan Walters visits Fenton Manor to support Premier League 4 Sport

JONATHAN WALTERS took time away from his pre-match preparations on Thursday afternoon by visiting Fenton Manor to participate in the hugely successful Premier League 4 Sport campaign.

The scheme began in 2009 with the aim of getting young people involved in various Olympic sports within their local community.

The Republic of Ireland international, who is currently looking to regain his place in Stoke’s starting eleven, visited youngsters to take part in a Netball session.

Tean Valley Netball Club member, Brogan Griffiths, has been selected for the England under 21 indoor netball squad, and Walters was on hand to congratulate her and test his skills in front of the net.

"It’s fantastic to get out here and interact with the girls," Walters told stokecityfc.com.

"It’s great to see so many people here to participate in different sports and I'm delighted to see one girl selected to represent her country.

"The scheme has proven to be incredibly successful over the past few years, so coming here today to congratulate everyone, especially Brogan, has been fantastic."

Walters is likely to have to make do with a spot amongst the substitutes once again this weekend, having struggled to regain his spot in the starting eleven following his dismissal against Norwich City last month.

“It’s difficult being out of the team, but the lads are performing incredibly well at the moment and when that is the case you have to accept that it is difficult for the manager to make changes.

"All I can do is keep working hard in training every day and then when my chance comes along I have to make sure that I take it."

He added: "Saturday's game will be another very difficult one for us because they are fighting for their lives. They will be up for the game, especially after their last victory, but we are going down there with the intentions of spoiling their party."
