Skipper recovers from knee injury to face Kansas City

RYAN SHAWCROSS was declared fit to lead Stoke City into the final game of their tour of the United States against Sporting Kansas City.

Shawcross had been nursing a knee injury sustained in the victory over Orlando City, but recovered in time to take his place in the starting line-up.

He lined up alongside Matthew Upson at the heart of City’s defence, meaning that regular partner Robert Huth reverted to a right back position.

With Glenn Whelan serving a one-match suspension, Dean Whitehead and Wilson Palacios were paired together in the centre of midfield.

Manager Tony Pulis handed a place in the starting line-up to Kenwyne Jones as strike partner for Peter Crouch with Jon Walters moving out wide.

Rory Delap and Cameron Jerome had recovered from slight injuries to take their places on the substitutes bench, but Andy Wilkinson was still absent.

The Sporting Kansas City side featured American international Teal Bunbury who had a spell on trial with the Potters in December 2010.

City: Begovic, Huth, Wilson, Shawcross, Upson, Walters, Whitehead, Palacios, Etherington, Crouch, Jones. Subs: Sorensen, Sidibe, Higginbotham, Ness, Shotton, Tonge, Jerome, Delap, Arismendi.

Sporting Kansas City: Kronberg, Ayerbusi, Markovic, Warzycha, Ellis Saad, Thomas, Joseph, Dwyer, Bunbury, Miller. Substitutes Angevine, Sinovic, Olum, Harrington, Cesar, Besler, Convey, Kamara.
