Winger joins Owen and Sorensen in contest

MICHAEL KIGHTLY has become the third of Stoke City’s first team stars to take up the challenge of competing for the title of the Club’s Master Chef for 2012 next month.

The summer-signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers will join fellow new arrival Michael Owen and Danish international goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen in the line-up for this year’s Stoke Kitchen contest which takes place at the Britannia Stadium on Tuesday 9th October.

The three City players will have their culinary skills put to the test by Italian celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo in a special show kitchen in the Tony Waddington Suite.

Kightly, Owen and Sorensen will be challenged to prepare starters, main courses and desserts in front of an audience of 300 diners in a competition that has been won by midfielder Rory Delap and then central defender Matthew Upson in the first two years.

Following the success of those initial two events featuring Marco Pierre White, this year’s appearance by D’Acampo, the chef who shot to stardom when he won the 2009 ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here’ and has featured regularly on television ever since that breakthrough, has made the 2012 Stoke Kitchen another eagerly-anticipated occasion.

While the Stoke Kitchen event itself is being sponsored by Wrights Pies, all of the contests have sponsors too, with Kightly being backed by DPS Tableware.

Langford Bate, Director of DPS Tableware, said: “It should be a fantastic evening and the fact that two of the Club’s new signings are taking part will certainly add to the interest.

“We are delighted to be giving Michael our backing and look forward to him showing that he is just as skilful in the kitchen as he is out on the pitch.”

Tickets for the 2012 Stoke Kitchen are priced at £1,500 plus VAT for a table of 10 people which includes a three course meal and three bottles of wine on each table, as well as photographic opportunities on the night.
