Potters take on Nottingham Forest this weekend

STOKE CITY LADIES are preparing themselves for the visit of Nottingham Forest tomorrow - their first of SIX home games to start the new season!

The Potters embark on their second term in The FA Women's Premier League (Northern Division) and will be hoping home advantage pays dividends in the opening two months of the season.

City's first five league games are all at home, whilst they've also been drawn to host Blackburn Rovers in the League Cup.

The way that the fixtures have been worked out could give them the best opportunity possible to eclipse the ten victories earned from their twenty games in 2013/14.

Two additional matches will also be played this season, with both Huddersfield Town and Coventry City replacing the relegated Leeds United as the league extends to twelve teams.

Preparations for the campaign have gone superbly well with two sides coming out victorious from the recent Warrior Keele Cup.

The national competition, at the nearby Keele University, saw the first team win the Elite Tournament and the reserves triumph in the Intermediate Tournament.

Whilst trophies are already in the cabinet, Ladies manager Andrew Frost insists it is too early to set any ambitions to better last season's finish of fifth place.

"It's difficult for us to gauge what we want to achieve at this stage," he said.

"Whilst the girls did really well at the Warrior Keele Cup, other teams have strengthened over the summer and they will be much improved.

"We've made a few new acquisitions ourselves, however, and hopefully they can settle in quickly.

"We'll look to put some targets in place for the league after three or four games, but hopefully we can at least retain the County Cup.

"It'll also be nice to progress further in the FA Cup and League Cup and if we do that then everyone will be delighted."

The Potters take on Forest at Stone Dominoes’ Wellbeing Stadium on Sunday (kick off 2.00pm).
