NEW Stoke City signing Jack Butland made his first appearance as a Birmingham City loanee after returning to the Club following his deadline-day move… and helped the Blues to a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
The England international youngster was between the sticks as a brace from Christopher Burke fired Lee Clark’s men to their ninth Championship victory of the campaign.
Butland was very close to a clean-sheet in the match, but a stoppage time penalty from Billy Sharp after he was tripped by Curtis Davies provided a small consolation for Forest.
He will see out the remainder of the season at St Andrews before returning on full-time basis with the Potters in the summer.
Veterans Matthew Upson and Rory Delap made debuts for their respective clubs after both completed late loan moves in the January transfer window.
Centre-back Upson played the full 90 minutes for Brighton & Hove Albion as they went down 3-1 to a resurgent Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough – former Potter Danny Pugh scored for Wednesday along with Leroy Lita and Michail Antonio, while Andrea Orlandi netted for play-off chasers Brighton.
Delap managed 54 minutes for Barnsley as they grabbed an impressive victory away at Blackpool thanks to goals from Jim O’Brien and Jason Scotland. Liverpool transfer target Thomas Ince scored for the Tangerines.
On the continent, Maurice Edu lined up for Bursaspor as they held league leaders Galatasaray to a 1-1 draw at Bursa Atakurk.
The American international, who signed for Stoke from Rangers in the summer, played the whole match with former City midfielder Sanli Tuncay coming on a substitute, and Scott Carson and Anton Ferdinand also playing a part.
