A selection of pre-match quotes from Mark Hughes' pess conference...

on his hopes of signing Ivica Olic…
“We did have an interest, but unfortunately that has reached its conclusion and it isn't to be for us. He was somebody that we would have liked, and I think we were close. It was a big decision for him, but in the end
he has made the decision to stay with his current side. We will move on though and look at other options available to us.”

on Spurs players apparently not willing to shake Charlie Adam's hand...
“It's very mischievous on the part of some guys in the media to be honest. It never rang true right from the off, so we took the steps to speak to Spurs about it and they have assured us that there is absolutely nothing in it. It's disappointing that things like this can be put out there, and at times allowed to spiral out of control.”

on making history tomorrow...
“If we are able to overcome a very good Spurs side tomorrow afternoon then that would represent five successive home wins in the Premier League - something which I believe hasn't been achieved here before. It would be fantastic to achieve that, and then hopefully go on to reach the other objectives that we have set ourselves for the season.”

on achieving the objectives he has set...
“As a team, it would be fantastic to make some history. If we were to win tomorrow then we will reach 47 points, and equal the Club's best Premier League tally. Then we would have two games to surpass that total which would be fantastic for us. We want to look back upon this season with pride and the lads have a chance to do that. You have to give the guys here a lot of credit, because if it wasn't for their attitudes and willingness to work and improve then we wouldn't be in this situation.”

on Spurs boss Tim Sherwood...
“He has a strong personality and comes across as somebody who is single-minded and knows exactly what he wants to achieve in the game. In my view he has come in and performed exceptionally well, and of course, I wish him well in the managerial role he is in, tomorrow aside of course.”

on the difficulties facing his side over the coming weeks...
“We have three very difficult games against teams who all have something to play for. We are only worried about ourselves though because in my view, if we are able to replicate the form we have shown in recent months then we will take some stopping. Each game will provide difficulties for us but we are confident of being able to take a good amount of points from these fixtures.”

on the Juan Agudelo situation...
“It is certainly our intentions to reapply for the work permit for Juan. He is a very good player and somebody I feel would add something to the team. We are very hopeful of being able to obtain the permit this time around. There is no time scale on when we will pursue it again, but it is something that we are working on and when the time is right we are convinced that that we will be in a good position to reapply.”
