Highly-rated youngster pledges long-term future

STOKE CITY are delighted to announce that highly-rated teenage midfielder Oliver Shenton has pledged his long-term future to the Club.

Shenton, who is only 15 but has been fast-tracked into the Potters’ Under-18 squad this season, had been attracting attention from a host of other clubs.

However the local lad, who has been with Stoke since he was seven, has dashed their hopes of securing his services by signing a lengthy contract.

Academy Director David Wright said: "Oliver’s game has developed very rapidly and he’s a player that we certainly have high hopes for.

"It’s certainly fair to say that he has been attracting a lot of attention from other clubs but he’s happy at Stoke and we’re delighted that he has signed a new contract with us.

"Oliver’s parents recognise that he’s in safe hands with us and want him to continue his development as a footballer and person with Stoke City.

"Oliver doesn't turn 16 until November but he’s already training full-time with us which wouldn't be possible without the understanding of his school, Blythe Bridge High.

"As with any young footballer, we cannot offer any guarantees about what their future might hold but Oliver’s is making excellent progress so far."

Shenton's mother Mandy said: "We have followed Stoke City Academy’s progress since Oliver joined them in 2004 and seen many, many changes over the years.

"We have seen a massive transformation in these later years and are now very fortunate to have such a fantastic facility at Clayton Wood Training Ground, along with a fantastic team of people who run it.

"Stoke City Academy is a fantastic place for any young footballer to be and has many local young lads who are happy, thriving, talented players, as well as attracting talent from all over the world."
