TONY PULIS recalled American international Geoff Cameron in making one change to the side beaten by West Ham United for the game at St James’ Park.
Cameron, who was rested for the meeting with the Hammers last weekend, was expected to line up at right back to allow Ryan Shotton to push forward.
His inclusion also meant that Michael Kightly dropped to the bench, while Cameron Jerome retained his place in City’s attack alongside Peter Crouch.
While Matthew Etherington was not ready for a return from his back injury, Michael Owen was included on the bench after shrugging off a thigh problem.
Owen’s presence meant that there was no place in the matchday squad for Wilson Palacios and Charlie Adam was also named among the substitutes despite the fact that he produced an impressive cameo display against the Hammers last weekend.
Newcastle: Elliot, Debuchy, Taylor, Yanga-Mbiwa, Santon; Cabaye, Tiote, Gouffran, Sissoko, Gutierrez; Cisse. Subs: Harper, Anita, Perch, Haidara, Marveaux, Obertan, Campbell.
City: Begovic; Cameron, Shawcross, Wilson, Wilkinson; Shotton, Nzonzi, Whelan, Walters; Crouch, Jerome. Subs: Sorensen, Jones, Owen, Adam, Whitehead, Kightly, Shea.
Referee: A. Marriner
