Assaidi and Etherington remain absent for Cardiff clash

MARK HUGHES has confirmed there are no fresh injury doubts to contend with ahead of this weekend’s Barclays Premier League trip to Cardiff City.

The Potters travel to South Wales on Saturday eager to maintain an impressive run of form that has culminated in 12 points being accrued from the previous five fixtures.

Hughes says that all of the players who featured in the 1-0 triumph over Newcastle united last time out are available to him, although he did reveal that Oussama Assaidi is likely to remain absent.

“He will join in with the rest of the lads in training today which is a good step for him, but I do think the game will probably come a bit too soon for him to return,” the Welshman said.

“We will see how he comes through the session today, but with a bit of luck, and with hopefully a full week of training behind him, we can look to include him in some capacity against Tottenham next weekend.”

Fellow winger Matthew Etherington will also miss the forthcoming encounter against the Bluebirds with a back problem.

“He is another one who is still struggling at the moment so he won’t be available to us neither,” added the 50-year-old.

Hughes must decide whether to stick with Stephen Ireland in the attacking central midfield berth, or adopt a more cautious approach by including Wilson Palacios in the eleven, as has been the case in each of the last two away fixtures against Aston Villa and Chelsea.

Jonathan Walters will also be vying for a return to the line-up having stepped off the bench last weekend for the first time since his dismissal against Norwich City in March.

Scotland international Charlie Adam is expected to be included in the matchday squad despite having undergone an operation on his broken nose on Monday.
