O'Connor boosted by support for London Marathon fund-raiser

MARK O’CONNOR has expressed his gratitude to all those people who have supported his sterling effort to raise a significant sum of money for the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice.

Stoke City’s first team coach ran the London Marathon last month with the aim of raising £10,000 for the Trentham-based children’s hospice, and he well on the way to achieving that goal.

O’Connor puts that down to the tremendous backing he has received from many people associated with the Football Club, especially the generosity of the players and his fellow coaches.

Having completed the Marathon in three hours and 51 minutes 24 hours after City’s crucial Barclays Premier League win in the capital at Queens Park Rangers, his Just Giving account is very close to the £7,000 mark while he has also received many other donations on top of that.

“I would like to thank everyone who has offered great support, particularly the players for their great generosity,” he said. “It has certainly made it all worthwhile.”

O’Connor, who is pictured with the medal he received for completing the London showpiece event, enjoyed the experience so much that he is planning to run again in 2014.
