Cameron desperate to get campaign back on track at St James' Park

GEOFF CAMERON is convinced that he and his teammates can end a barren run of form this weekend . . . when they travel to the North East to take on a resurgent Newcastle United side.

Despite sitting in a comfortable mid-table position, the Potters travel to St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon on the back of a disappointing sequence of results, having recorded just a single victory from nine league encounters.

Despite that alarming statistic however, the United States of America international believes that an upturn in fortunes is just around the corner.

“We’re going through a down part in our season right now,” the former Houston Dynamo star acknowledged.

“We were flying around Christmas time, and playing really, really well, but we’ve hit a sticky patch, and we have played some tough teams in this run too.

“It’s kind of brought us into this declining run of form, but that said, I believe that we have the guys here to turn things around for us.

“There have been games where we haven’t got what we maybe deserved, but that’s football, and we won’t look for excuses.”

He added: “We have to get back to playing the way we know we can play, and if we do that then the performances and results will start to come again.”

The 27-year-old says that he understands the recent frustrations from the supporters, but has called upon them to remain positive and help the side get back to winning ways.

“I think they are frustrated at the performances and the results, just as much as we are,” he stated.

“People have to be careful what they say though, because its easy to say things like we aren’t very good, and we aren’t doing this, that and the other, but we have to remain positive, and keep looking forward.

“I totally understand their frustrations, but the more we stick together the more chance we have of getting things back on track again.

“Our fans are absolutely incredible, and they have been amazing throughout the season. We want to get the results for them, and try to get back into the top half of the table for them. They deserve that.”
