Potter Aiming To Help Nigeria Book Place In Last Eight

PETER ODEMWINGIE will look to keep his World Cup adventure alive this evening when Nigeria go head-to-head with France in the last 16.

The Stoke City striker has already secured his place in his country and club’s folklore by becoming the first Potter to score a goal at the Finals which earned Nigeria their first win at the World Cup since 1998.

However, he is in no mood to call time on his Brazilian adventure and will be hoping to help his nation secure a place in the quarter-finals for the first time in their history when they face France in Brasilia this evening (kick-off 5pm UK time).

Although Odemwingie has played a key role in Nigeria’s World Cup campaign, arguably their brightest star has been winger Ahmed Musa.

He was in scintillating form in their final group game against Argentina, prompting coach Stephen Keshi to declare: “I said Messi is from Jupiter, but Musa is from another planet with pace like that.”

Nigeria and France have met only once before, in St. Etienne in 2009. Odemwingie started that game as the African side won 1-0.
