Potters set to name same starting line-up for Toon clash

STOKE CITY’S assistant manager Dave Kemp has revealed that the Potters could field an unchanged side for Wednesday night’s Barclays Premier League encounter against Newcastle United at the Britannia Stadium.

Tony Pulis had originally hinted that he could make changes to his starting line-up for the game against the Magpies, but may now opt to retain faith with the same eleven that recorded a 1-0 victory against Fulham on Saturday.

That could mean changes are in store for this weekend’s trip to high-flying West Bromwich Albion, after Kemp, who undertook Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, confirmed that both Andy Wilkinson and Michael Owen are both expected to be available for that encounter.

“Michael [Owen] is back in training again now, but Wednesday night will probably come too soon for him, so we will look to get him involved in some capacity at the weekend if we are able to do so,” he told stokecityfc.com.

“We should also hopefully have Andy Wilkinson available to us in time for Saturday’s game too, so that will be a boost to us.

“The players have performed well recently, and there isn’t any urgent need to change things around too much for the game tomorrow. We will have a look at one or two things though and make a decision prior to the game.”

With no new injury worries to contend with, it could mean more frustration for the likes of Maurice Edu and Jamie Ness, both of whom have struggled for action at the Britannia Stadium this term after agreeing moves from Rangers in the summer.

“It has been difficult for them, and maybe they are a little unfortunate to not have featured in the team as much as they would have liked to have done,” added Kemp.

“But both players have shown a tremendous attitude in training and I am convinced that when they are needed they will step up to the plate and perform well for us.”
