A selection of quotes from Mark Hughes' press conference on Friday

on the Britannia Stadium atmosphere this season…

“The atmosphere at the stadium for the big games has certainly been an element in us getting good results. In the games against Manchester United and Chelsea we had atmospheres that were something to behold, but we know that we have to give them something to shout about. When we give them that they will make noise and we have to make sure our performance is one that is deserved of the support we get.”

on his side’s impressive home form…

“Our record at home is one that we are proud of, even the Liverpool game had a scoreline that didn't really reflect the game. We have to maintain that and maintain the intensity in our play and show the same effort and commitment.”

on the future of Thomas Sorensen…

“Thomas (Sorensen) is a very valuable member of the squad here and the situation with him will be revisited soon. He's an exceptional goalkeeper and if we allow him to leave they'd have to be for really valid reasons. He is a top professional and a very good individual too, who is very highly thought of here. We wouldn’t stand in his way if an opportunity came up for him to play more regularly at a level that he feels is right for him”

on a potential new contract for defender Andy Wilkinson…

“We'd like Andy (Wilkinson) to stay here. He's been here for a long time and he is another very valued member of the squad. We are looking to keep him here for sure, and hopefully something can be done on that front that will satisfy all parties.”

on media speculation linking Croatian international Ivica Olic with a move to the Britannia Stadium…

“There are a number of players we're interested in. It's fair to say that (Ivica Olic) is an interesting player, who has played and impressed at the very highest level. He is somebody that we are interested in, but we will have to wait and see how it progresses.”

on Saturday’s testing encounter against Arsenal…

“Arsenal have always had really good technical players and you have to be aware of their ability and rotation. They have game changers and game winners in their ranks and even when they aren't playing well they can still produce moments of magic to take games away from teams. They've had a really good season up until this point and they'll be looking to progress further and win some trophies.”
