A round-up of quotes from today's press conference

on the Potters progression…

With the changes that we have made this season, maybe people weren't expecting us to enjoy the season that we have done. People may have thought we would struggle in terms of being able to compete this season, but that hasn't been the case and we are now in a position where we have a real opportunity of making some history.

on hitting the targets between now and the end of the season…

There is a feel good factor around the place at the moment - and should we be able to get the three points on the board tomorrow then we will be ahead of where we thought we would be at this stage of the season. Hopefully then we can relax into our play a little bit, as we did against Villa, and then take a good amount of points from the final seven games. We want to break records this year. There are points tallies that we can break, our highest league finish, most home wins and most away wins. There are a lot of objectives that we are using as motivation for us. We feel we can enjoy a very good end to the season, and if we can produce the levels that we have done recently then we will be able to look back on this season with a sense of pride.

on the 4-1 triumph against Villa last Sunday…

Maybe a few people outside of the Club were surprised at the way we took the game away from Aston Villa, but speaking from working with the players week in week out, it really wasn't surprising. We have been working towards a performance like that for quite a while, and it was pleasing to see the players produce what they did at Villa Park.

on Hull City...

They have had a good season themselves and they are in a good position. They haven't really had a poor spell which has seen them dragged into the battle at the bottom, so they will be pleased with how things have gone. Our focus is very much on winning the game on Saturday though, getting to that 40-point mark and then being able to look at the other targets that we can hit.

on Tigers boss and former Manchester United team-mate Steve Bruce…

Myself and Steve have been in the game for a long time now, and we both know how difficult it is to manage at this level. We have both gone through difficult periods in our managerial careers, but we have both had good seasons so far, we have navigated things well, and I hope that we can both look back in the summer with a lot of satisfaction. He was an exceptional team mate of mine during our time together at Manchester United so it is good to see him doing well too. Obviously we will both want the victories for our own side's on Saturday, but after the game I am sure that we will have a chat.

on his selection dilemma this weekend…

There are one or two selection headaches for me with the players that I have available but that is a nice dilemma to face. The players who have been in the side have been superb for me, but there are good players waiting in the wings to come in too. I will look at a few things, and decide which eleven I feel is best equipped to go out there and take the game away from Hull City tomorrow.

on a hugely positive two weeks…

This past week has been very enjoyable with the back-to-back victories and the encouraging season ticket sales. Hopefully we can reward the supporters for their incredible support with a memorable end to the season. They have been behind us all of the way and I think that they are enjoying what they have been watching in recent weeks.
