Club mourn the passing of Calvin Palmer

STOKE CITY are mourning the passing of Calvin Palmer, who made 196 appearances for the Club in 1960s.

Mr Palmer, who was 73, joined City from Nottingham Forest for £35,000 in September 1963 and went on to score 27 goals for the Club in a five-season stay at the Victoria Ground.

Ironically, 40 years ago he scored in a 3-0 home win over West Ham, who will provide the opposition for Stoke at the Britannia Stadium tomorrow.

Although regarded primarily as a midfielder, his versatility allowed him to play in a variety of positions during his stay in the Potteries.

He later went on to serve Sunderland, Crewe and Hereford and brought the curtain down on his career in South African football.

The Club extends sincere condolences to Mr Palmer’s family and friends.
