Striker completes switch to Sheffield Wednesday for a month

MAMADY SIDIBE has today been presented with an opportunity to take another important step along the comeback trail . . . after Stoke City gave the go-ahead for him to join Championship club Sheffield Wednesday on a month’s loan.

The 32-year-old Mali international links up with Dave Jones’ side for their forthcoming Championship fixtures as he seeks vital match action now at the end of a long road to recovery following serious knee and Achilles tendon injury blows.

Sidibe confirmed his return to fitness last weekend when he not only completed 82 minutes of the Development Squad’s Under-21 match against Tottenham Hotspur, but also got his name on the scoresheet to pave the way for this loan move.

“This is fantastic news for Mama and everyone here wishes him well over the next few weeks at Hillsborough,” said manager Tony Pulis.

“It’s been a long, long road back and an incredibly tough time for him, but he’s now got an excellent chance to get out on a football pitch again and play for a top club at Championship level. I know he will be in good hands playing for Dave Jones.

“Mama deserves all the luck in the world after what he’s been through, but I am sure he will just be happy to get back to what he does best.”

Sidibe is one of two players joining Wednesday on loan from Premier League clubs today, the other being Manchester City left back Jeremy Helan.

He has completed the loan switch in time for him to be available for the Owls’ home game against Leicester City this weekend.
