Winger comes off the bench to score winning goal in Gold Cup Final

CITY WINGER Brek Shea was the hero of the hour for the United States yesterday as he came off the bench to score the only goal of the game in their CONCACAF Gold Cup Final.

Shea's instant impact ensured a 1-0 victory over Panama in the showpiece held at Chicago's Soldier Field, and ensured the USA their fifth Gold Cup trophy.

He turned home Alejandro Bedoya's 69th minute cross from close range just 42 seconds after being introduced onto the pitch for his second goal of the tournament, in front of a raucous 57,920-strong crowd.

The result extended the USA's winning streak to 11 games and will give coach Jurgen Klinsmann have a wealth of options ahead of the final round of qualification games for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil next summer.

Brek will now link up with the Potters for the rest of their pre-season preparations.
