John Guidetti helps to kick-start fundraising event

STOKE CITY striker John Guidetti has helped kick-start Sport Relief’s fundraising effort by visiting a local school.

The Swedish international dropped in on Leighton Academy School in Crewe as a guest of Brightstar 20:20, who are also lending their support to one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events which since 2002 has raised £195million.

Brightstar 20:20, whose staff will be volunteering to receive donation calls when Sport Relief hits our TV screens next Friday, invited Guidetti to pass on coaching tips to football-mad pupils at the school, which also has close links with City.

The 21-year-old, who is currently on loan at the Britannia Stadium from Manchester City, met members of the school football team and also took part in an eagerly-contested penalty shoot-out.

Guidetti, who has his own foundation that helps young people in Nairobi where he lived as a child, said: “I’m a big supporter of any fund-raising initiative that helps people less fortunate than most and Sport Relief certainly does that.

“It was great to meet the youngsters at Leighton Academy and spend time talking football and passing on some tips. The school has certainly got some promising footballers.”
