Improvements ongoing to Sir Stanley Matthews Statue

STOKE CITY supporters attending Saturday's 2014/15 curtain raiser against Aston Villa will get to see the continued improvements to the area surrounding the Sir Stanley Matthews Statue.

Refurbishments of the area at the Britannia Stadium have been ongoing for the last month with all the hard landscaping now completed ahead of the weekend fixture.

The statue itself has been cleaned and renovated and the area will once again open to the general public.

The time capsule commemorating the Potters' 150th anniversary in 2013, containing a whole host of Club-related items, has also been buried with a cover plate to be fitted to mark its location.

A seating area will be added in the coming weeks whilst further landscaping will be completed in the autumn, to finalise the creation of a memorial garden.

The work will make even more of a feature of the landmark that celebrates the achievements of the Club's greatest ever player.
